Introduction to Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology

wuaalogo72_100hThe NAS Introduction course is the first stage in the Nautical Archaeology Society training program, which
WUAA is partneringNAS Logo with to build a community of trained advocates to help document and promote Wisconsin's maritime heritage. This one day course offers an introduction to archaeology and maritime archaeology, combining a mixture of classroom and practical sessions. This course aims to promote archaeology more broadly, but to also provide specific content that pertains to the incredible history of Great Lakes maritime tradition. This introduction course will also introduce topics such as dating methods used in archaeology and how the current legislation applies to our underwater cultural heritage.

By the end of the day participants will: 

  • Have been introduced to the basic principles and scope of maritime archaeology
  • Be able to apply 2D survey methods to an archaeological site
  • Have an understanding of your rights and responsibilities concerning underwater heritage in Wisconsin
  • Be qualified to pursue further NAS training credits, which can be applied toward future conferences and higher level training courses. 

When: Friday October 14th 2011

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - 1/2 hour lunch break, and 1/2 hour afternoon break

Where: Discovery World museum, Milwaukee, WI

Cost: $85, Price includes course materials, museum fees, etc.
